Camping Plans, a Little Progress & Sheba’s Buddy

Playing is hard work!

Playing is hard work!

I found out today that the campground we were planning to visit next week has still not reopened since the early May floods.  So I’m not sure whether we will get out next week or the following week.

In the meantime, I have just finished making my fourth interior support for the Fantastic Fan installation.  I can’t cut straight cuts with my jig saw, can’t get it to look like I want it to look, so have finally given up and will just use this one the way it is.  Tomorrow I’ll get the wiring done, then, between rains, cut the hole in the Casita’s roof and FINALLY get the thing installed–hopefully this week.

Chase and Sheba

I am so afraid of this job, so have done some serious foot dragging on getting started!  I also have to cut the plastic interior surround down which involves scoring the plastic sides, cutting the corners, then breaking the plastic along the score lines.  I do hope I don’t destroy it in the process!

Today my neighbor Cindy brought her dog Chase down to play with Sheba.  Sheba loves it when Chase comes to visit.  They have a blast together.  They play until they get

tired, take breaks, then play again until they are exhausted.

In the meantime, Cindy and I get to catch up on each other’s news.

Spring Finally Found Us

Between thunderstorms we’ve made decent progress on the yard work.  Still have a way to go, though.  Ron’s planning to pressure wash the house next week — if we get a break in the rain!

We are hoping to squeeze in a camping trip before Sunny and Sheba’s next vet visit on the 7th.

So since I have no camping news, I’ll just post a few pictures taken around our property.  Hope you enjoy them.  🙂

Roses, Antique Mall, Wild Strawberries & the Uke

My Mother's Day roses

Not only were my Mother’s Day roses beautiful, but they also have that sweet, old time rose fragrance.  I bury my nose in them every time I pass them.  I think these were the prettiest roses I’ve ever received.  They were beautiful before they opened, but I like them even better now.

After my dental appointment today, we stopped by the antique mall.  I was looking for a

very special teacup and saucer to pamper myself with.  I didn’t find any teacups I liked, but I saw these mugs and I was smitten.  I love old fashioned romantic rose patterns.  Drinking my morning coffee in these will be a real pleasure.

When I got home, I walked around the perimeter of our property and found the wild strawberries and Indian strawberries are ripe.  The wild strawberries have an exquisite flavor.  The Indian strawberries are edible, but tasteless.

Unfortunately, the Indian strawberries are thriving and spreading, but the wild strawberries seem to be losing ground.  There aren’t as many plants this year as there have been in previous years.

About the ukulele — I am getting really weary of playing scales and songs like Are You Sleeping and Wildwood Flower.  I’m mixing in some chording and playing by ear to keep from getting too bored.

But I really need the practice reading notes, so I’ll finish plowing through this book.  Then I can start the fingerpicking book, which should be a lot of fun.
