Our Casita at Eastbank COE

We’re at beautiful Eastbank COE campground on the Georgia/Florida border. There is not much to do except fishing and a couple of short trails. But soaking in the beauty is a full-time job! It’s a quiet, heavenly place to relax. It’s also only $11 a day with our senior pass. We’ve spent much of the day reading, doing crosswords and walking Sheba. And admiring the lake view from our door and all of the windows.
We are also having to make sure everything that touches the ground is sprayed with bug spray. There are tiny ants everywhere.

Sheba has been more combative when other dogs are walked by our site than usual. I’m guessing she’s getting tired of having to be tied up all the time. And little Sunny is exhibiting symptoms similar to an elderly person with Alzheimers. It’s stressful for him and for us.
These sunset photos are all unretouched. The colors were more magnificent than my camera could show. And if I had retouched them to make them match the splendor my eyes saw, no one would believe it anyway!

The coots are so numerous here that it is startling. At first we thought they were trash floating on the water. Then we realized they were coots. There are hundreds of them.
We plan to go to Bainbridge tomorrow to shop and look around.
And Wayne, we haven’t seen an alligator, but with all those coots out there, they probably do just fine without ever coming ashore! 🙂

/ December 4, 2014That’s about true. I love looking at all of the current blogs that are about hiking in Utah – you know who you are. I am in awe of what they are doing on a daily basis. Then I remember that I did that, too . . . but thirty years ago. Thirty years is a long time for a body to deteriorate! And mine certainly has!

I guess someone warned you of the sugar ants…I remember washing clothes and sharing experiences with a fellow camper in Salt Springs in 2013. She reported getting a terrible infestation of sugar ants at a COE on the GA/FL border. So stay on alert.

/ December 4, 2014We are on guard for the ants. So far they aren’t inside the Casita. They were on the outside near the door, so I sprayed it and I think it got them all. I also sprayed the electric cord. We did learn not to put dog food bowls down outside!
The warmth is sheer heaven, Lynne. It seems so strange to be wearing shorts in December, but I am loving it!

/ December 4, 2014Thank you, Judy! They were taken with the phone camera. I saw some beautiful little water plants that I think I will have to use my bigger camera on. I’ll try them with the phone tomorrow, but carry the other camera as a backup.
Some of those campgrounds you stayed in up north had the same effect on me. They looked so natural and well managed.

/ December 5, 2014That sure is a beautiful place. Remember it well. Now I did not see any gatore either but was told how many are in there and a fellow camped close by said to shine a spotlight across the water at night certian times of the year and all you can see is eyes! Spooky for sure. Bet some of those old coots were ones that hung out at Patagonia last spring! There were a bunch there too.
For those ants, I heard if you mix powdered sugar and baking soda 50/50 and set it out in small batches, e.g. lid for a drinking cup. They eat it and carry it back to the den for their friends and the queen, when they get gas from the baking soda poooof! They are gone. I’d give it a try and can’t wait till we have the opportunity, have not had an anu problem out here.

/ December 5, 2014Wayne, that’s what a boater told us a Cotton Hill COE in Georgia near Eufaula – where we DID see lots of gators. He said when he brought the boat into the canal at night it looked like a Christmas tree with all those red eyes shining. That’s where I yanked Sheba out of the water when I saw a young gator rapidly swimming toward her… and when I saw a young boy teasing a baby gator with his fishing bait. I felt that it was dangerous there.
I am seeing a few ants in the trailer now so it’s time for me to go on the warpath. I have boric acid which I know works for ants and all kinds of crawling bugs. I am very curious to see if the sugar and baking soda works, too!

I have noticed that the one thing my phone camera is especially good at are sunsets. Or maybe I have just been in the right places to see some gorgeous ones lately.

I’m not exactly sure where Salem is, but we have driven through the hill country of SC and were surprised at how beautiful it is. And all the people we met were so very friendly and welcoming.
Heading to Rice to pick up a Casita has to be one of the most exciting things ever! We bought ours used, so missed that experience. I hope you make many wonderful memories in your sweet little Spirit Deluxe!
