The Heart of Summertime

Tenters on the far bank

Cloud cover and a steady breeze made exploring the woods a pleasure today.  Amazingly, we have not picked up a single tick! Yet, anyway!

I took Sunny for a short, slow, old-doggie-paced walk this morning.  He soon tired, so we headed back.  Then I took Sheba for a longer, brisker, more interesting walk.

I found all kinds of little wonders to photograph.  However, in transferring them to my computer, I lost over 30 of them.  My favorites, of course!

I think it might be time to start thinking about getting a new camera.  I promised myself one for Christmas, but I might not make it  that long.

Darn!  😀

Last night's thunderstorm blew all of the trumpet flowers off their vines. None are left in the trees.

    • So glad you enjoyed them. Summertime is such a special season. After thinking that last winter would never pass, I am not going to complain about the heat. Not too much, anyway! 🙂

Hi Sharon, The buggy critters absolutely love me, so I bathe in lavender soap and add a spray of the oil mixed with alcohol on hats, lower sleeves and pants legs with boots to keep the ticks and the chiggers away. It also helps with any itchy bites. Most bugs dislike it about as much as scorpions do. If all else fails you can turn to dog fennel rubbed on your skin (sampled first for reactions in a tender spot) as it will keep the mosquitoes away also. Enjoy the great outdoors without them enjoying you 😀

    • Rush, thanks for the info. I have lavender essential oil at home — unfortunately not with me. I think I’ll pass on the dog fennel, though. 🙂

  5. So you are still managing in the heat! Pat yourself on the back for finding ways to have a good time. Went hiking this am and almost got sick from the heat and high humidity. Think the humidity was really the culprit.
Always love looking at anything from the world of plants.

    • Lynne, the only thing that saved us today was cloud cover and a nice breeze. It got sticky and still this evening, but I’m in the air now and working on remembering only the good. It was the best day we’ve had here so far.

Yes, it’s definitely the humidity. It makes the air heavy and hard to breathe for me, too.

I loved the photos! Particularly the tenters right at water’s edge. I would have loved that back in my tenter days!

    • Seeing the tenters here has been a special treat for me also. I’ve relived some of my favorite tenting experiences, too. I think my all time favorite was Hatteras Island many years ago. 🙂

Some places we go they don’t have many, so it’s really special to see people enjoying “real” camping.

  7. Sunny still has a puppy face poor old guy.

Seems like the rain has let up for you so you can go exploring with Sheba.

    • Yes, he does have a puppy face. I call him my baby boy. Well, lately I also call him Grandpa. 🙂

The thunderstorm passed over us today. Hopefully the ones that are predicted will move on, too. But I sure do like the cool air they bring!

    • Thanks, Anne! I already decided I want one with a better zoom because that’s my very favorite kind of photography. 🙂
