Amity COE is probably the most beautiful campground we’ve ever enjoyed. But when there was no one else in our loop over the weekend — and only a handful of campers in other loops, we were starting to miss people.

We left Amity around 3:00 and pulled into FDR State Park around 4:00 this afternoon. After a fast set up, we headed back toward town to pick up KFC — and Almond Joy ice cream cones at LuBelle’s Ice Cream Parlor. What a treat!
We got back to FDR amidst a drenching downpour. It’s still too soggy and drizzly to take pictures here, so I’ll post a few of my final shots from the Alabama side of West Point Lake.

/ May 15, 2014Why do I love your blog? That’s pretty easy. First, you are the only person I ‘know’ who glue for a walk in the wood with a camera, grabs a bunch of weeds and fungi, take a photo, then goes home and make dinner out of it. While I realize that it’s not unique, it always entertains me.
Plus, I really love the fact that you are always willing to tackle a big , involved project on your Casita.
Sure, we have different calling styles, but I hope that someday we’ll find ourselves parked next to you at a southern COE campground. It will give Jezzy two new friends to bark at.

/ May 12, 2014Cool! Love FDR SP. We always stopped at that KFC after a backpacking trip. Nothing tasted better.
Miles and miles of really fine hiking up on Pine Mountain (which I know you know). Should be shady and cool up there as opposed to the flatlands. Summer is here. Ugh.

The treats you brought Sunny make giving him his eye drops a lot easier. He knows he will get one of them when he is a good boy, so he is almost anxious for me to treat his eyes!

/ May 12, 2014I found West Point Lake on Google Maps and came up with a theory about the few campers. If the main draw is fishing, the large population surrounding Atlanta would not have a fishing license that ‘s valid on the AL side of the lake. And the AL side is not close to a large city. Of course it could be lots of other things.

/ May 12, 2014Lynne, our Georgia fishing licenses are honored on the Alabama side, so that’s not it. It is the strangest thing because Amity is incredibly gorgeous — prettier with larger campsites than those on the Georgia side. Especially the loop we were in. We were in site 91.
Of course, I’m truly delighted it wasn’t crowded so we could reserve all the time we wanted. 🙂
