When Dad died in 2001, we never dreamed that Mom would someday fall in love again and remarry. But it happened!
In the past, Mom has made it clear she did not want her photo on the net. But when I talked to her yesterday, she was proud that their pictures were on Facebook — and posted on the wall in a restaurant in her town. So I’m sure she wouldn’t mind my sharing her happy day on my blog! 🙂
The rain just keeps coming. We live on an unpaved road and there are huge, ever-growing ruts in it. I called the County Road Department before our trip to Coleman Lake, hoping that the road would be regraded by the time we got back home. It didn’t happen. When I called last week to check on why it hadn’t been done, they said the rain had put them behind schedule. They hoped to get to it this week. That didn’t happen either.
So, unless they get it done Monday, we will head out for our camping trip Tuesday, taking the Casita through the ruts, and through the rain that is predicted, and pray that we don’t pop any rivets.
My little garden made it through a predicted freeze the other night with no damage. Ron covered the tomatoes and peppers with a tarp, and none of the flowers were damaged. So it must not have gotten quite as cold as expected.

/ April 19, 2014Oh, what a wonderful event for your mom. Nice looking couple. Have fun, sounds like the first challenge is getting out – and let’s hope that is the only challenge; and that the road has been graded on your return.

/ April 19, 2014Emily, she is like a moonstruck teenager! So funny! And we really laughed at how Jean has the cat-ate-the-canary grin in the picture.
It’s supposed to clear up and be beautiful after Tuesday. So hopefully the road crew will beat us home!

/ April 19, 2014Congratulations to your mom!!! So wonderful to have someone to spend your life with and not be all alone. Sounds like you all have had the same rain we’ve had. It just keeps on coming!! Glad your plants were spared. I hadn’t put much out, only a few hanging baskets and I was able to bring them inside.
Have fun on your next camping adventure. Can’t wait to read all about it. You guys find the nicest places to camp. I’m keeping notes!!

/ April 19, 2014Apparently Jean is very easy to be with and is Mom’s dearest friend, so I expect their marriage to be special. I hope they have years of good health to enjoy each other’s companionship.
This is going to be a short camping trip. We’re meeting with a friend at Watson’s Mill Bridge State Park for 3 days. Wish it could be longer, but we’ll make it up in May!

/ April 19, 2014Camilla, Mom was so tight lipped about the romance, we didn’t get a lot of detail. Just that his wife died, he met Mom at church, and the romance took off like a rocket. 🙂

/ April 19, 2014Sharon, you might want to look into Wall O Water for your tomatoes and peppers. It protects to 20 degrees. It’s been a lifesaver here in Michigan because I can get my plants out at least four weeks earlier.
Your Mom looks happy. Thanks for sharing and happy camping.

/ April 19, 2014Marsha, I had seen Wall O Water in garden catalogues before, but didn’t know anyone who had actually used them. Thanks for the heads up on them.
I don’t think we will need them anymore this year. Our last frost date is May 1, I think, and the 10 day forecast doesn’t show anything near freezing. But I’ll plan to have them on hand for next year.
My sisters and I joke that our Mom has more of a life than we do. We are in awe of her happiness. 🙂

/ April 20, 2014How lovely for your mother! My dad also died in 2001 after living with coronary artery disease for 30 years!
Two years later Mom remarried an old junior high friend….one that we did not know existed!
They have now had 11 years together and he has been such a blessing for the whole family!
Hope you are having fun and hope the sun shines on you and Ron whether you are gardening or camping.

/ April 20, 2014Jean is tending Daddy’s grape vines, pear trees and such. It is so nice to see them being taken care of again. Mom said they will probably have a bumper crop of grapes this year.
How good for your Mom. Some women seem to thrive and enjoy being alone. Others are much happier with companionship.
Thanks for the happy wishes for sunshine! 🙂
