Low carbing has given me a whole new lease on life!

Last night’s dinner. Leftover chicken soup and salad with leftover deli chicken and pan-crisped pepperoni
Today my blood pressure was down to 122/79. Normal!!!! My fasting blood glucose is running between 98 and 106!
And I’ve lost 9 pounds.
I can’t wait to see my doctor’s face when I see her the 21st. She will be stunned at the improvement. I think she was pretty much resigned to watching me gradually become debilitated.
I can’t see the weight loss except in my face. I have cheekbones again! Hope the weight loss moves on down to my muffin top soon! 😀
It is another very dreary rainy day. It was so bad earlier, I wondered how the Casita would work as an Ark.
The weather really makes me a little envious of my blogger friends who are on the road to seek the sun.
I hope all of you are leaving the nasty weather behind, and I am so looking forward to seeing your photos and accounts of your travels!
……. It cleared up, the sun came out, and it got up into the 60’s after I posted the above! My mood just skyrocketed up! 🙂

/ January 11, 2014klb, it IS hard to do it when you are the only one in the house low carbing. I was doing that for a while, but when hubby saw my health improvement, he decided he wanted to, too. In fact, he was just showing off his blood pressure numbers to me. 🙂
If you do decide to go for it, you can get a lot of support on a low carb forum. These two are my favorites:
http://forum.lowcarber.org/index.php
http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/
One of the strategies some use is to cook a main dish that you both can eat, then fix separate side dishes. It’s tough, but not impossible. 🙂

/ January 11, 2014I was just released from the hospital. I was in because I have COPD and had pneumonia. Was on IV antibiotics and steroids for 5 days. I am also diabetic and the steroids cause my diabetes to go haywire. My blood sugar has been over the moon for days…so uncomfortable. So I am very interested in low carb and inspired by your posts. I need to lose weight, bring down my blood pressure, stabilize my blood sugar. Heal my lungs as best I can which means avoiding cold air. I will check out the forums you recommended. Thank you for the inspiration.

/ January 11, 2014Ginger, I also have COPD and had pneumonia not long ago. I also was on steroids. They blew me up like a balloon and made me miserable. I was in pretty bad shape.
Both of those forums have a diabetes sub forum. You should be able to find a lot of help and a lot of support from people who know exactly what’s going on with you. Since I didn’t have full-blown diabetes, I didn’t spend much time reading them.
Almost everyone who sticks with low carbing for any length of time reports noteworthy progress.
Wishing you all the very best.

/ January 11, 2014Thanks, Marcia! It’s not a diet to us, either! We feel that we splurge every time we eat.
I’m expecting to see another pound gone within a couple of days, too. That is such a thrill! 🙂

We ‘ve been at Catalina Mtn forabout 24 hhhours and I am feeling more human. It was a rough trip…most ly due to the cold, the cat and my allergies. Hope to start posting some soonn.. Using the tablet keyboard and I give up on correcting the mistaaakes. are you leaving for FL in a couple of weeks or is your sister coming to you?

/ January 12, 2014Lynne, I sure do empathize with you about feeling more human after a rough trip. They are all rough trips to me! I only put up with it to get to go where I want to be! I’m so glad you got some down time to rest up a bit..
I forgot about your allergies! I can’t BELIEVE that! And here I was cheering on your bringing Sylvester along! I am so sorry! A cat in a Casita with carpeted walls is not a good thing when you have allergies!
Lynne, we will be here until spring. Probably late March. I missed out on a a meeting with Kim, Peggy and another new friend in Florida this week. I don’t handle cold well at all, so have decided to wait until I can reasonably count on warm weather when we do get out.
We had to abandon our triip to Texas to see my sister when we got so sick in Meridian. We turned around and came back home. I probably won’t see her again until some time next summer. We’ll met somewhere halfway because I just don’t do long distance any more.

/ January 12, 2014Gerri, I don’t know why it was so hard for me to decide to start low carbing again. Once I made the commitment, it has been a joy. I have not missed wheat or sugar at all! Before when I low carbed I always was looking for bread substitute recipes and my soul just craved bread!
I think the difference is that this time is my health. I know if I stay on low carb I can get out, study mushrooms, photograph beautiful places and LIVE while I live. If I start eating garbage again, my health will deteriorate and I am toast.
So since my commitment is so complete, I am just loving exploring all the delicious food I can prepare for Ron and me. We feel like we are eating like kings and queens!
No, I don’t look awesome at all. I look obese! But I’m making steady, barely perceptible progress. I’m hoping I can begin to see a real difference by the time we head to Florida in spring. 🙂

/ January 13, 2014Horst, thank you for letting me know that you are interested in the low carb posts. I have deliberately not been posting much about them because I figured most people would not be interested and I didn’t want to bore them.
Since I now know of a couple of people who are interested, I’ll start posting more about them.
I really appreciate the feedback!
