Today we packed up and headed home.
One of the homes on Doll Mountain Rd.
I wanted to show you some of the homes along Doll Mountain Road. We are so fortunate that the Army Corps of Engineers owns so much land directly surrounding the lake. Otherwise those of us who couldn’t buy land there would miss out on the natural splendor that we have reveled in for the past week.
Our trip home seemed long. It got cloudier and darker as we drove along. Finally, the inevitable rains came. I’m not sure if we drove out of them or the sun just decided to come out when we got close to home.

Anyway, it was nice not to have to park and unhitch the trailer in the rain.

I don’t know how Doll Mountain got its name. We went to the visitors’ center one day but got there after it had closed. The only thing I remember from our last visit a few years ago is that the lake is 450 feet deep. 🙂

/ August 8, 2013Susan, it is near Ellijay, GA at Carters Lake in the north Georgia hills. It’s part of the Carters Lake Army Corps of Engineers Recreation Center.

/ August 9, 2013The funny thing is, I never even heard of Corps of Engineers campgrounds until we bought our first camper and I started looking at RV Boards.
One guy who used to work for them years ago said that, despite their efforts to publicize them, their recreational facilities were the country’s best-kept secret.
I think the internet has changed that, though. 🙂

/ August 9, 2013When you go to Doll Mountain, be sure to get a site in the back. It’s like a different campground back there. So pretty!
Your beach pictures are making ME homesick. Not that I ever lived on the West Coast, but I did grow up on a Florida beach. And the majesty and mystery of the ocean is in my blood.
Hope you continue to soak in and share those gorgeous sights!
You’ll be home soon enough, so no need to get homesick. The mountains will be here when you get back. 🙂
