Ron baiting a hook
This morning clouded up and looked like it might rain. But, as it has every day since we’ve been here, the clouds moved on, and it turned into a beautiful day.
I spent part of this morning deep cleaning the Casita. It starts to close in on me when it gets cluttered. So I vacuumed the carpet around our beds and under the bathroom door (where Sheba hair collects), and got everything spiffed up again. It’s surprising how much larger the Casita looks when it’s clean.

Our refrigerator vent cover arrived from Casita today! To say I was delighted would be a huge understatement. I laughed at my jerry-rigged fix, but I’m so relieved to have the little Casita looking pretty again!
The last two days have been warmer and muggy, but not uncomfortable. We have had to run the air conditioner at night to sleep comfortably though.
Around 4:00 this afternoon, we went fishing again. We leashed the dogs to trees. They weren’t thrilled with the situation, but were pretty good about it.

At first, we had a blast fishing for bait fish with crickets. Those little 4 – 6″ fish hit almost as fast as we could throw our lines in. But then, when we started fishing with our bait fish, that was the end of the action.
However, I don’t think there is anything as serene as sitting on a shady bank…. just knowing that a huge fish will strike at any time. 🙂
We were out there for three hours before we started getting hungry and decided we’d better head back to camp and cook dinner.

I’m exhausted this evening, but it is that wonderful tired that you get from being outdoors all day.

/ August 6, 2013Lynne, I was wondering today if I would love camping nearly as much if I didn’t have the Casita. There is something so cozy and homey about it. Kind of like a magical little cottage in the woods. I think we must love “playing house” in it. 🙂

/ August 6, 2013This is one of the prettiest places we’ve camped. The camp host said he traveled all over America, but he kept coming back here. Finally he decided to stay here.
I needed a strainer for pasta tonight. Didn’t have one. But I had saved a plastic insert out of a “Steamers” microwave dinner. It worked! I also had to make a homemade fish stringer today because we left ours home. So camping IS good for the brain! 🙂

/ August 6, 2013You have me totally hooked on camping at Doll Mountain in the near future. i think Mike and I just need a place, as you described it, to “restore our soul.” Our son is getting married in December so things are crazy around here and we need to get away.and take a deep breath. Should we make a reservation? Is there a better section, we like the woods?
Love your window!!! Bob and Beverly had put in a stained glass window and although it is pretty I do like the idea of light coming in and being able to raise it for cool air (when there is any that is).
We were also thinking about attending the rally in Cherokee, NC. in October. We aren’t huge “groupie” type folks but thought it would be nice to meet some other Casita owners and learn from them. Just pondering the idea!

/ August 6, 2013Gerri, Doll Mountain closes in October and reopens in April. So keep that in mind if you are planning to come. We didn’t make reservations. We arrived on Thursday and got Site 41 near the back of the park. I think our loop is the very prettiest section.
However, while we were paying for our site, another person called and asked if they could have this site. If we had come in on Friday, I doubt we would have gotten any site. The camp host did say that it should slow way down from now on.
What I do is check online a few days before we plan to go somewhere to see if it looks like there will be spaces available. If so, I don’t make reservations. In that case, I always just ask for the prettiest site available, and I have always been pleased with the sites we’ve ended with up that way.
Another thing to ask for, if the weather is hot, if for a site that doesn’t get direct afternoon sun. I learned that the hard way. 🙂
The only rally I have ever attended was Cherokee. I met some wonderful folks there. I don’t handle crowds well, especially with the dogs, so I doubt we’ll attend another one. But I would highly recommend that you attend just to meet others from the Casita world. They are some great people!

/ August 6, 2013Jack, that is SO exciting. The only thing better than a Casita is a shiny new Casita!
The main thing is to get out in it at every available opportunity. Even if it’s just for a weekend — or a long weekend. They are little go-everywhere rigs.
Once in a while I read about someone buying a Casita and then deciding it’s too small for them. But most people are just crazy about theirs! I bet you will be, too! 🙂

/ August 6, 2013Kathy, I was starting to worry about the part arriving. Casita had forgotten to take my home address, so I called back and left a message with the receptionist, giving her our home address and telling her the credit card wouldn’t be approved without it.
Then I started worrying that there might have been a mix-up and they had delivered the vent to my house instead of here. I was SO relieved when they called me and told me it had been delivered to the office!
It’s very easy to install. There are tabs at the top that slide into grooves to secure it, and two plastic fasteners at the bottom. So it went without a hitch.
Sheba has come a long way. She’s not thrilled with being tied up all the time, but she is taking it in stride. The only time she still gets out of control is when she meets new people — or dogs. Then she gets so excited that she will not respond to any command and we just have to hang onto the leash for dear life.
I’m hoping that in another year, she will have her emotions under control a little better. 🙂
