Clark Creek

Our Casita at Clark Creek

Our Casita at Clark Creek

We did something a little differently this time.  We chose a small campground (only 24 sites – all waterfront) very near to a small town.

We are at a bend in the creek.  The more impressive water views are on the other side of the campground.  But they also get full afternoon sun, and our site is in lovely deep shade all afternoon.

I’m surprised at all the different types of water activity here.  Pleasure boats, fishing boats, jet skis, rubber rafts.  And several people were swimming in the creek today, and one guy was snorkeling.  I swore swimming in creeks and lakes off after a fish bit me when we were camping in Mississippi a couple of years ago.  The only way I will swim in a natural body of water is if it is as clear as Salt Springs in Florida.

You can stand in neck deep water there and look down and see the individual grains of sand on the bottom.  Not here!

It was sweltering today!  We want to go fishing while we’re here, but will plan on going early in the day before it gets too hot.  After we got a shower this evening it was pleasant sitting outside…. except for the humidity.  So we are chilling inside tonight enjoying icy air conditioning.  I would love to open the windows and hear the night sounds, but don’t want the heavy, damp air that comes with it.

This isn’t the ideal time to go camping, but we were so desperate to get out that we are glad we are here.  We’ll manage the heat by cocooning inside during the hottest part of the day.  And going for ice cream cones.  🙂

  1. Bluebirds are so beautiful! Might as well be out and about, even in Casita air than at home feeling all closed in. You have so many beautiful lakes around you…I’m bookmarking this one. Have an ice cream cone for me!

    • Bluebirds are noisy, too, I discovered! We’re enjoying being here in spite of the heat. We do have a lot of COE lakes in easy driving distance. We’re heading out to get that ice cream soon. I’ll have a few licks for you. 😀

  2. We are in McKaskey campground on the other side of the lake. The storms formed west of us yesterday evening – let’s hope that happens again today!

    • Hi, neighbor! 🙂

Earlier today it looked like the wind was blowing in a storm, but it turned out to just be a very welcome, cooling, stiff breeze. Hope all the thunderstorms that are predicted over the next several days do the same thing!

Looks like a lovely campground. Where exactly is Clark Creek I read your blog and live vicariously, while trying to convince my husband to buy a Casita. I’m thinking of the Liberty and making two twin beds that way — although yours looks very workable. Makes for a hard decision — will have to wait and see what is available once I talk hubby into it.

    • Julie, it’s actually called Clark Creek North. It’s the smallest Army Corps of Engineers campground on Lake Allatoona northwest of Atlanta.

At first we wanted a Liberty, but since we bought used, we bought what was available. I don’t think you can go wrong, no matter which model you choose.

I’m glad you are following along with us. But I will REALLY love it when you have your own Casita to go places and do things with! The very best of luck in convincing hubby he needs one. I am the one who was dead set on getting a Casita, and now getting out in it is the thing Ron loves best in this life! Hope it works the same way for you. 🙂

Check out lake Winfield Scott in Suches. Excellent lake and 10 degrees cooler than the burbs of Atlanta on a hot day.
