Today Ron and I scrubbed the mildew (all we could get) off the Casita’s awning. I applied mildew remover, rolled up the awning and let it set for a while, opened the awning, sprayed some more, scrubbed, then hosed it off. And then did it again. There are some stains I couldn’t remove entirely. Maybe I’ll buy the kind of mildew cleaner that foams the next time and see if it will get it all.
I got sidetracked from packing for the trip when I caught a glimpse of wild carrots by the road. And then I took off on rabbit trails chasing more photos. I’ll get back to the packing this evening. 🙂

This is the first time I have seen this type of gall on dandelion leaves. I think it’s caused by a midge or a mite.
I adore dandelion flowers!

/ June 11, 2013How you can make something so simple as a weed look so beautiful! Loved the baby bracken leaves! Awning….we have got to figure out how to get that sooner than later…hate to head to TX right now. Might just have to do without for a while as need to get to SD soon. I really think we need the awning…don’t you. Screen tents only good for certain places.

I can’t imagine heading to Texas right now. Hot doesn’t begin to describe it!
The awning makes camping so much nicer. It also helps shade the refrigerator vents in hot weather. It also gives you a cozy front-porch feeling. I wouldn’t be without one.
I wish I could find a waterproof screen room. Most of them just break rain into small droplets, but you still get wet inside. But our awning does the same thing. I bought some waterproofer for it. Will wait until I get rid of every trace of the mildew to apply it.
If you are going to spend a lot of time out West, I don’t think you’ll have to worry about mildew.

/ June 11, 2013HA! I just tried to scrub the stains and mildew off of my awning. Got most of it but will try your idea of using a foaming type cleanser. Am so glad you mentioned rolling it back up and giving it a chance to soak a bit.
Love the photos as well. That does look like an Amanita Phalloides to me.
