Ocean Pond

Yay!  WordPress will let me insert large photos again!

We got to Ocean Pond Campground late this afternoon.  Ocean Pond is not an ocean, and it’s not a pond.  It’s a lake in the middle of the Osceola National Forest in northeast Florida.

It’s a beautiful campground.  Nicer than I expected.  It has a self-pay station and you choose your own campsite, then go back and put your money and registration envelope in the iron ranger.  All of the waterfront sites were taken, but that actually worked out better for us.

We have a HUGE campsite.  Behind us is a memorial plaque to a ranger who was killed in WWII, so there isn’t a campsite there.  And we’re on a curve across the street from the lake with a HUGE front yard, too.  Plenty of room to keep the dogs on long leads without bothering the neighbors.

All this space with water and electric is only $12 a night with our senior pass!

It was really hot today.  I was so grateful that our site is in deep shade during late afternoon.

This evening the mosquitoes are bad.  The camp host told Ron they’ve been bad for the past three days.  They aren’t sure why.

Sure glad I brought bug spray and mosquito repellant!

  7. Yay for you and your crew! So glad that Ocean Pond met and exceeded your expectations! We only stayed there one night two years ago but found it to be a very pleasant campground. (I can’t remember why we were in a hurry to leave, maybe cold weather.)

The warmth may have awakened the skeeters. Hope they stay manageable!

    • This is also centrally located between several of my relatives. We could camp here and let them come see us! 😀

Ocean Pond is one of my favorite campgrounds. I normally leave the northeast the beginning of November and once I get to Brunswick, GA I start to slow down and spend a good deal of time at Blythe Island regional Park in Brunswick and then Ocean Pond, then onto Eastbank Campground in Chattahoochee. Just me and Callie,my Springer, Lab, Husky mix in our 96 Roadtrek 190. I am following blogs this winter as I am staying north to work. I am very fond of yours. Happy Travels!

    • Kathi, do you have a blog? I’d love to read about you and Callie in your Roadtrek. Although if I were soloing, I probably wouldn’t want to post my location on the net. I am fascinated by vans and tiny motor homes. I’ve never been to Blythe Island Regional Park. Will have to look it up. And we loved Eastbank!

Sorry you aren’t coming south this winter, but glad you have blogs to tide you over. And I’m so glad to know that you are enjoying mine! 🙂

No, I don’t have a blog. I thought about it a few years ago but quickly realized I wouldn’t have the time to keep up with it. I am so happy you enjoyed Ocean Pond as much as I do. I really appreciated the photos, it made me almost feel like I was there. I am looking forward to your next stop.

We are at Salt Springs now. I liked Ocean Pond a lot better! 🙂
