Doily — Progress?

I’ve picked up my long-abandoned doily… and it’s not going smoothly!

The outer flower motifs are the same as the center ones.  But I have a bit of a spatial perception problem, and working the motifs upside down and backwards so I can attach them to the outside row of the doily is very frustrating.  I’ve either cut out or opened and retatted 6 rings in these three motifs due to my attaching them to the wrong picots.

I think I finally have a feel for how they are supposed to go together, though.  Hope it goes smoothly from here on out!

  1. It is beautiful color combination and very cute! I do tat so I know it takes a lot of time to finish a tatting doily, but I can’t wait to see this finished doily!!

    • Thanks so much for your comment. I was getting a little discouraged with it and you’ve encouraged me to stick with it! 🙂

Boy does that sound familiar. I got to just about the same spot with the one I’m making (did one about a year ago that I just flew right through with no problems) and lost my motivation for several months. Since I finally picked it up again I’ve made just about every mistake that you could imagine, but I’m plugging along. Only three outer motifs to finish. How long could that take? Well… Sometimes I think these projects have personalities of their own. Yours is really beautiful. It’ll all be worth it when it’s finished.

    • Cathy, I laughed out loud when I read your comment. You DO understand what it’s like! I also asked myself “How long could it take?” I’m finding out a LOT longer than I figured!

Glad you are still plugging along on yours. I am looking forward to finishing mine — eventually. I’m not sure I’ll ever tackle another doily again, though!
