Beginner Shuttle Tatting Project

Beginner shuttle tatting on Christmas card

Beginner shuttle tatting on Christmas card

TA DAH!!!!!  My beginner shuttle tatted Christmas tree is completed.

I am so thrilled!  It’s far from perfect, but a few weeks ago I would have never dreamed that I would be able to shuttle tat at all!

I also got my order with Aero shuttles and bobbins and two SewMate shuttles to try today.  Needless to say, I am playing with my new toys tonight!

Oh, the red flowers are supposed to be poinsettias.  😀

Oops, I forgot to add that the Christmas tree pattern is a free pattern from be-stitched.com.

I think you did a really nice job on your Christmas card. I love the tree stand that you created. It really sets off the tree. Thanks for sharing this with us. It will be one very lucky person that receives this card.

  3. That is a pretty card. At first I thought that the tree was embossed to the card and wondered how you did it. Then I enlarged the image and saw that it was tatted. Very nicely done.

    • The photo does look like the tree is embossed. I liked that accidental effect. 🙂

Thank you, Jon. I have been really working on my shuttle tatting. I started one bookmark over 4 times before I considered it worth finishing. I got that one done and was thrilled that I could do it, but it did look rough. I started it over last night, and it is flying along now and looking so much nicer. It will actually end up being a gift!

When I get a little better, I want to try some of your patterns again. Maybe by then you won’t cringe when you see them! 😀

  4. Excellent! Love the green tree skirt. Is that part of the pattern or your own addition?

    • Gina, the plain white tree on the ecru card didn’t look very festive. So I made a little strip of beginner edging in green from a pattern book that I have. I thought I might put it along the bottom of the card, but when it started to curl, I decided that it would work as a tree skirt. Then I added the flowers for color.

It was an accidental success! 🙂

  7. Thank you, Margaretha!

We have had so many good times in the little camper. We are planning to go to Texas to visit my sister for Christmas. We will camp in her driveway there. 🙂
