F. D. Roosevelt State Park

F. D. Roosevelt State Park

The Aliner at FDR State Park

We had intended to camp at R. Shaeffer Heard COE campground.  I didn’t make a reservation because I know they hold a block of sites for first come, first served, and we would be sure to get a spot arriving on a Wednesday.  But when we got there, we were in for a shock.  The campground was closed for the winter.

I can understand that in cold weather areas where there is ice and snow.  But today was in the 80’s and fall is prime camping weather here.

Fortunately we were only a short distance from FDR State Park, so we headed there.

I only snapped a few photos right around our campsite as it was starting to get too dark for photos.  But this place is so steeped in American tradition and history that it will be a joy to explore further tomorrow.

Also, Ron’s younger sister lives about 10 miles from here in Waverly Hall.  So we will get to visit with her, too, while we are here.

Sunny lucked out this evening.  We ran off and left the dog food home, so he will get people food this evening.  Not good for him, but it will certainly make him happy.

Although we  have not yet been by the rental cabin areas, the glimpses we’ve caught of the cabins from the camping area are scenic and intriguing.
